Caring in the community

Every year, one of our lovely customers, Nest Kitchens, offer their services out to the local community, giving them the chance to have a project completed, that they may not necessarily have the time or budget to do themselves.

With last year being no exception, we thought we’d take five minutes to look back on the project, and see how it’s helped the local area.

In early 2018, Nest were approached by their local primary school in Leeds, to ask if they could help, design, install and most importantly, provide a working kitchen for their children.

The aim? To bring back hands on cooking lessons, supporting healthy eating, life skills and overall social development.

Having taken a brief from the school, Nest embarked on designing a fully functional kitchen, that could be easily and safely operated by young children, whilst allowing the school to regularly provide cookery lessons, empowering the students to cook and create.

And, with a little help from their friends (PWS), we all worked together to ensure the product was provided at no cost to the school!

“Not only do the lessons help to promote healthy eating, but measuring the individual ingredients provides a fun maths lesson, as well as showing science in action too, with the mixing and cooking of ingredients!”

The result – a truly wonderful working kitchen, using our Unity Reclaimed Oak door to create a beautiful bespoke shelving unit.

So, what did the school think?

Thank you again for all your hard work and commitment to create such a wonderful kitchen for our children. They are loving spending time in there and the quality of the conversations and enthusiasm for the cooking has been lovely to see.

And most importantly, the children?

Thank you very much for our beautiful new kitchen – we love it! We can’t wait to start using it and have already thought about all the different things we could have a go at making.

Finally, Nest Kitchens themselves?

We would like to thank every single person who has helped design, make and coordinate this project. It’s meant so much to the school, and had such an important positive impact on the children’s development.

From all at PWS, thank you Nest Kitchens, for making such a difference within the community!
